Unique Self Care Ideas in Denver, Colorado

Denver is a fast-paced city! Many of us work demanding jobs on the weekdays and fill our weekends with high-energy activities, leaving little time to rest our minds and bodies. I know “self care” has become a major buzzword the last several years, but at its core, it’s an idea I wholeheartedly believe in. If you are looking for some unique new ideas to up-level your self-care game in Denver, look no further! This blog post delves into three local ideas.

  1. Take some time to unwind and recharge at Upswell Recovery Studio.

Upswell is a welcoming and inclusive recovery studio with two locations on South Broadway and in the Central Park neighborhood. If you want to give your mind and body some love, this is the place to go!

Upswell offers a range of recovery-focused activities including saunas, compression therapy, cold plunges, and more. If you’ve never tried any of these modalities before, no stress! The staff is welcoming, friendly, and happy to guide you through it.

One of the best parts of Upswell is the class schedule. There are multiple classes you can attend throughout the day led by thoughtful and intentional instructors. Below are some of the current class offerings (my personal favorite is Restore!):

  • Power - Power-vinyasa yoga class incorporating soft tissue release and body-weight strength.

  • Burn - Power-sculpt yoga class incorporating slide-board strength and cardio bursts.

  • Restore - Restorative yin-yoga class incorporating breath work and soft tissue release.

2. Soak up Colorado’s 300 days of sunshine in a unique way.

Whether you want to make the drive to Rocky Mountain National Park, walk around Washington Park, or just lay in the grass in your backyard, Colorado offers us so many ways to connect with nature and practice mindfulness. Below are a few ideas for outdoor adventures to check out in the Denver area:

  • Head to the Denver Botanic Gardens any time of year and journal or sketch in the grassy fields.

  • Challenge yourself to hike the Manitou Incline and then head into Manitou Springs for a mindful walk around town. Bonus points for sampling all the natural spring water!

  • Head to Yoga on the Lawn at the Levitt Pavilion for an opportunity to not only connect to yourself and your body, but also to the greater Denver community.

  • Or you can always lean back on old faithful- drink your coffee on your porch in the morning and take a few deep breaths of Colorado air before starting your day. It never fails!

3. Delve into a new culinary adventure while supporting local communities.

In case you’re new around here, I believe that enjoying food and eating is a healthy way to take care of yourself and connect with others. Eating a delicious meal can actually be an appropriate coping skill! Denver has a lot of options when it comes to trying new foods or having new culinary experiences.

  • Cooking Classes: Enroll in classes at local spots like The Seasoned Chef to learn new recipes and enjoy delicious meals.

  • Local Farmers' Markets: Visit one of the many farmers' markets for fresh produce and artisanal goods, supporting local vendors. My favorites include Pearl Street, Union Station, and the Highlands.

  • Explore Aurora’s Delicious Offerings: I may be biased since its my hometown, but nothing compares to the immigrant-owned restaurants in Aurora. Some of my favorites include Golden Saigon, The Nile, and Taqueria Corona.
